We tailor a comprehensive literacy program specific to your child. Lessons and materials are individualized to progress at the exact pace a learner needs by scaffolding new information in a natural progression of understanding.
Each session uses a multi-sensory approach incorporating visual, auditory, and kinesthetic activities. Tasks focus on phonemic awareness, phonics, symbol imagery (the ability to visualize and manipulate the sounds and letters within words), decoding, spelling, morphology, grammar, reading comprehension, fluency, and written expression. Each of these activities is overlayed with cognitive exercises and games designed to strengthen students' working memory.
Individualized instruction is ideal for learners who struggle with reading, writing, and comprehension, including those with dyslexia.
SpellRead is an intensive, structured literacy program designed to improve a student's phonological automaticity - the ability to master sound-letter relationships and automatically process those sounds. Each session also includes active reading and writing connections components.
SpellRead was developed in Prince Edward Island by Dr. Kay MacPhee and brought to Nova Scotia in the late 1997 by Sarah Arnold. Today, the program is widely accepted and referred to by educators, psychologists, field experts, and speech-language therapists. SpellRead has been rigorously tested and been part of numerous clinical studies: Florida Centre for Reading Research and What Works Clearinghouse.
SpellRead is particularly well-suited for children and adults who experience difficulties in reading, including those with dyslexia.
