Our Story

Hello! My passion for teaching literacy skills began while working for the federal government on education projects overseas. Communities' opportunity for autonomy and self-governance depended heavily on their ability to access, manage, and leverage information. When literacy rates increased, individuals and communities were empowered. I firmly believe that 'a rising tide lifts all boats.'

I brought this experience home to Canada and began working with marginalized and educationally disadvantaged learners to improve literacy rates in my own schools and the wider community. I have taught literacy skills to learners from Primary to adults in a wide variety of formal and informal academic and non-profit settings.  I am part-time faculty at a small,  East Coast university, and I am continuously learning, researching, and training in the evolving field of literacy instruction and science. I am trained in Spell Read intervention programming and will complete my Orton-Gillingham Practitioner accreditation in 2024.

Opening my own business as a reading practitioner was born out of a passion for literacy and a desire to make a positive impact in my community. As an educator, I know how important proficient reading is for a person's educational and socio-emotional development. One-size does not fit all when it comes to remedial or intervention services, and Rising Tide Reading Clinic is committed to determining each person's individual needs and formulating an intensive, targeted learning plan.
